Spread the word
Forward this to anyone in the area who'd be into it and can actually make the games. Everyone's welcome. The more the merrier. If this goes well we'll run a few tournaments a year and maybe switch up the games.
The basics
- It's for fun. No skill needed. Nobody's getting scouted.
- Only sign up if you can make the games. No stand-ins. It keeps things fair.
- You don't have to wait for game night. If all four of you are free at noon on a Tuesday, play then. Nobody cares. (Maybe save beer pong for after work.)
- Warm-ups allowed. Warm-up and practice games are allowed if both teams agree.
- Side action. Friendly side betting on individual games or competitions is allowed if someone is taking the other side!
- No pressure to drink. Play with water if you want.
League format
- TeamsTwo players per team. Sign up on your own; teams are drawn at random after sign-ups close Nov 1 at 11:11 PM ET.
- Team AssignmentAt least one other player has to watch the random team assignment in person or on a live stream or it doesn't count.
- Schedule releaseThe official schedule will be determined on 11/2 after the draw, but matches can always be adjusted and rescheduled by competing teams if needed.
- MatchesEvery match is three games: Taps, Darts, and Beer Pong. Each game you win is 1 point. Win two and you win the match.
- Points add upPoints carry over all season, so play all three games even if the match is already decided.
- Round robinEveryone plays everyone once.
- Standings & Official Tiebreak RulesRanked by total points. If teams are tied in the standings, the official tiebreak order is:
1. Total match wins
2. Head-to-head match result
3. Total point differential (points scored minus points allowed)
4. Most total Taps wins
5. Coin flip by commissioner. - PlayoffsTop four teams. Semifinal 1 on Mon, Nov 23 and Semifinal 2 on Tue, Nov 24 (if we're moving quicker, we'll move them up), with the final on Wed, Nov 25. If anyone is traveling for Thanksgiving week and ends up in the finals, we can figure it out. Playoff games have to be played; if one can't happen, the commissioner decides.
- Entry$25 per person. Cash or Venmo, collected after the schedule is set. If we don't get enough people, nobody pays.
Scheduling
- Game nightsTwo set nights a week (Tue & Thu) at a host's house. The nights come from what people pick on the sign-up form.
- Game daysDesignated days, mostly weekends, where you can knock out several games at once. It's getting dark early, so expect Saturday and Sunday Taps marathons to get the Taps out of the way. Darts and Beer Pong get played as time allows. Game days are listed on the Schedule page.
- Make your own scheduleSet up any game with the other team whenever it works for all four of you. The three games in a match don't have to be on the same day.
- Reporting scoresEither team reports each game on the Schedule page when it's done. Scores lock once they're in; tell the commissioner if something's wrong.
- WhereTaps can be at a park, a school, or a driveway. Doesn't matter. Darts and Beer Pong are at a host's house. BYOB.
Forfeits, disputes & conduct
- ForfeitsIf you can't line up a game in time, forfeits are in play for all three games. Each forfeited game is 1 point to the other team.
- Sort it outTeams handle their own scheduling. The commissioner makes the final call if needed.
- Zero fightingAny arguments to be settled with an NHL-style 1-on-1 fight, only broken up after enough hooks and jabs are thrown... (Just kidding. Seriously, don't fight. This is a friendly neighborhood league—anyone instigating a fight will automatically forfeit the entire match in totality, not just that individual game.)
- Regular season deadlineEvery regular-season game has to be played by Sun, Nov 22. Anything not played by then is 0 points for both teams, unless one team forfeited it. Then the other team gets the point.
Taps Basketball
- Who shoots firstShoot for ball in Game 1. Loser of the previous game shoots first for Game 2 and Game 3 (if necessary).
- No redemptionNo redemption allowed in Taps.
- Game to 21First to 21 wins.
- Exactly 21You have to hit 21 exactly. Go over and you drop back to 15.
- 2s after 11No 2-point shots until you have 11.
- Distances & Court LinesThe 1-point and 2-point lines are decided by the host. Halfcourt is decided by the host too. At a real court, real lines play.
- Tap-insYou have to be off the ground for a tap-in to count.
- Tapped on 21If you're sitting on 21 and get tapped on, you go back to 11.
- Half-court to winOnce you're at 21, hit a half-court shot to win.
- Any courtPark, school, driveway. Doesn't matter. At a real court, real lines play.
Beer Pong 6 cup
- Who shoots firstEye-to-eye to see who shoots first.
- Cups6 cups per side. 10 cups if both teams agree.
- Heating upHeating up is in. Hit two in a row and call it; hit the third and you're on fire and keep shooting until you miss.
- BouncesBounce shots are allowed.
- No return balls off missesStrictly no behind-the-back or lefty shots on rebounds.
- No fingering or blowingYou can't finger or blow a ball out of a cup.
- RedemptionRedemption is allowed.
- Drinks & SafetyNo pressure to drink—water works. If you are playing with beer, safety first: either Uber, have a designated driver, or hang out long enough to sober up. If playing 6-cup there should be no issues if you hang out for a few hours, but plan accordingly—walk or Uber.
Darts Cricket
- Who shoots first1 player from each team throws 3 darts for high score; highest score's team shoots first.
- NumbersStandard cricket: 15 through 20 and the bull.
- ClosingThree marks closes a number. Singles count once, doubles twice, triples three times.
- Straight cricketNo deductions. Just straight cricket.
- Redemption & tie breakerCricket has redemption as well. Tie breaker: each team picks a number and first to close it wins (redemption carries over until a winner is decided).
